할렐루야! 1,043 시간! 기도 일천시간이 부활절을 한주 앞두고 벌써 달성되었습니다! 지금까지 연 총인원 1,362 명, 매일 평균 40명이 새벽 제단에 나오셔서 열심히 기도해 주신 결과입니다. 이번 사순절 기간동안 한번이라도 새벽 기도회에 나오신 분은 총 82명, 그중 18분은 하루도 빠지지 않고 새벽 제단을 지키셨습니다. 이분들께, 그리고 집에서 또한 열심히 기도해 주신 여러분께 깊은 감사를 드립니다.

오늘은 종려주일입니다. 예수님께서 나귀를 타고 예루살렘성에 입성하셨을 때 백성들이 종려나무 가지를 흔들며 환영하고 환호했던 일을 기념하여 전통적으로 종려주일이라 칭하며 지켜왔는데, 요즈음은 이날이 고난주간의 시작점이라는 것을 고려해서 고난 주일이라고 부르기도 합니다.

월요일부터는 예수님의 고난을 더욱 깊이 묵상하는 고난주간입니다. 이번에 우리 교회에서는 금식하며 이 고난 주간을 보내기로 했습니다. 로비에 보시면 연속 금식을 위한 사인업 표가 게시되어 있습니다. 이미 많은 분들이 한끼씩, 또는 그 이상을 금식하겠다고 적어 주셨습니다. 바라기는 다른 때는 금식이 힘들더라도 이번 고난 주간만큼은 주님의 고난을 묵상하면서 한끼씩 금식하며 기도의 행진을 계속했으면 합니다.

매끼마다 기도할 수 있도록 기도 제목들을 다시 정리해 보았습니다. 매끼에 두 항목씩, 하루에 여섯 항목, 그래서 오는 주간에 총 36개의 기도 제목을 놓고 기도하실 수 있습니다. 길게 기도하기 어려우시면, 간절한 마음으로 주어진 기도 제목을 한번 조용히 읽어 주시는 것으로도 충분한 기도가 되겠습니다. 매끼마다 주어진 기도 제목과 함께 여러분들 자신의 기도 제목들을 놓고 기도하실 수 있기를 바랍니다.

지금까지 여러분이 기도 응답 내용을 나눠 주셨습니다. 실명 위기에 있던 가족의 시력이 돌아 온 것, 가족의 신앙이 회복되어 열심히 성경을 보기 시작한 일, 자녀의 집 문제가 해결된 일, 자녀의 직장에서의 승진, 자녀 가정이 다시 교회를 나가기 시작한 일, 어려운 출산의 위기를 산모와 아이가 건강하게 잘 넘긴 것, 시력 약화로 운전이 힘들었는데 다시 운전할 수 있도록 회복된 일, 재정의 어려움이 풀린 일, 사역을 위한 새로운 열정이 생긴 일등 여러 응답의 소식을 접하면서 하나님께 감사를 드립니다. 그리고 앞으로 우리 가운데 아침 이슬처럼 끊임없이 매일 매일 쌓여갈 하나님의 응답을 생각하니 마음이 벅차 오고요. 그러나 무엇보다도 기도함을 통해서 우리 가운데 가득 채워 주신 성령님의 은혜가 감사하고 감사할 뿐입니다.

고난주간에도 새벽 기도를 통한 기도의 행렬은 계속됩니다. 금요일 저녁 7시에는 십자가상 7언을 묵상하는 성금요예배가 있습니다. 섬금요예배는 축도나 주기도문 없이 예배를 마치게 되는데, 이는 예배는 부활하신 예수님께 드리는 것이기에 십자가에 죽으신 예수님을 기리는 성금요일 예배는 부활하신 예수님을 찬양하는 부활주일 새벽 예배까지 끝나지 않고 계속되는 것으로 여기기 때문입니다. 이에 토요일 새벽기도회도 다른 순서 없이 무덤에 묻히신 예수님을 생각하며 침묵 가운데 기도하는 시간으로 이어가게 됩니다.

부활주일 새벽 예배는 주일 아침 6시 30분에 있습니다. 그날 해 뜨는 시각이 6시 14분이라고 하니 떠오는 밝은 해를 바라보시면서 오시길 초대합니다. 그날 아침을 중고등부와 대학부, 그리고 청년부에서 근사하게 준비한다고 합니다. 진정 은혜 가득한 고난 주간과 또한 기쁨이 넘치는 부활주일이 되기를 마음 모아 축원드립니다.

Hallelujah! 1,043 Hours! The goal of 1,000 hours of prayer has already been reached - one week before Easter! This is the result of the faithful dedication of an accumulated total of 1,362 participants, with an average of 40 people attending the early morning prayer service daily. During this Lenten season, a total of 82 individuals joined us at least once for early morning prayer, and among them, 18 people came without missing a single day! I express my heartfelt gratitude to them and to all of you who faithfully prayed from home as well.

Today is Palm Sunday. Traditionally, we commemorate this day to remember the time when the crowds welcomed and praised Jesus as He entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey, waving palm branches. While this day has long been called Palm Sunday, it is also now referred to as Passion Sunday, as it marks the beginning of Holy Week.

Starting Monday, we enter Holy Week, a time to reflect more deeply on the suffering of Christ. This year, our church will observe this week through fasting. A sign-up chart for relay fasting is posted in the lobby. Many of you have already committed to fasting for a meal, or more. I encourage everyone to consider fasting at least one meal during this sacred week, to reflect on Christ’s suffering and continue our prayer campaign.

To help guide your prayers during each meal, we have once again compiled prayer topics. There are two prayer topics per meal, totaling six each day, and 36 prayer topics for the week. If praying is difficult for you, just reading the day’s topics quietly with earnest heart can be a meaningful prayer. I hope you will also bring your personal prayer concerns before the Lord along with the shared topics.

Many of you have already shared your testimonies of answered prayer: the return of vision to a family member on the brink of blindness, the restoration of faith in a loved one who has now begun reading the Bible with renewed passion, the resolution of housing issues for children, promotions at work, children returning to church, safe recovery from high-risk childbirth, restored ability to drive despite vision issues, relief from financial burdens, and a renewed passion for ministry. All of these are reasons to give thanks to God. And my heart overflows with anticipation for the daily, dew-like answers to prayer that will continue to build up among us. But above all, I am most thankful for the abundant grace of the Holy Spirit that has filled us through this season of prayer.

The early morning prayer gatherings will continue into Holy Week. On Friday at 7 PM, we will hold a Good Friday Service, meditating on the Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross. This solemn service will conclude without a benediction or the Lord’s Prayer, as the worship given to the risen Christ does not end with His death but continues into Easter Sunday’s Sunrise Service. Therefore, Saturday morning prayer will be a time of silent meditation, reflecting on Jesus lying in the tomb.

Our Easter Sunrise Service will take place at 6:30 AM. The sun is expected to rise at 6:14 AM, so we invite you to come as the dawn breaks and light fills the sky. That morning, a delicious breakfast will be prepared by our youth, college, and young adult ministries.

I sincerely pray that this Holy Week will be filled with abundant grace, and that Easter Sunday will overflow with resurrection joy. This is indeed a season of GRACE!
