어느새 가을이 왔습니다. 여름이 하도 더워서 가을은 까맣게 잊고 있었는데 세월은 어김없이 흘러 어느새 가을의 문턱에 서게 되었네요.

더위가 물러간다는 처서 (8/23)와 찬 이슬이 내리기 시작한다는 백로 (9/7)를 지나 이제 낮과 밤의 길이가 다시 같아지는 추분이 오는 화요일이니 완연한 가을이 온 것 같습니다. 콜로라도 중부지방의 아스펜 단풍 절정기도 오는 주간이라고 합니다. 또한 오는 목요일부터는 추석 연휴가 시작되네요. 이제 여름 끝자락에 조금은 느긋해지려 했던 마음을 아침 저녁으로 선선해지는 날씨와 더불어 다시금 바삐 추시려 보게 됩니다.

오는 월요일부터 목요일까지 한미연회 교회개척위원회가 주관하는 “개척교회 지도자 수련회”가 우리 교회에서 있습니다. 13분의 개척교회 목회자와 5분의 사모님, 그리고 4분의 연회 임원등 총 22명이 오십니다. 오시는 개척교회 목회자 중에는 우리 교회에서 선교후원을 하고 있는 뉴욕 “하나님이 일하시는 교회”의 박영관 목사님과 시카고 “여섯 걸음” 교회의 이상범 목사님도 오시게 되어서 반가운 만남을 기대하고 있습니다. (박 목사님께는 수요예배 설교를, 그리고 이 목사님께는 기도를 부탁드렸습니다. 많이 참석하셔서 은혜 받으시면 좋겠습니다.)

특별히 의도한바는 아닌데 교회 이름이 참 마음에 드는 두분 목사님의 교회를 후원하게 되었네요. 여섯 걸음 교회는 다윗이 언약궤를 모시면서 여섯 걸음마다 멈춰서 제사를 드린 이야기에서 감동을 받아 교회 이름을 지었다고 합니다. 짧게 줄여서 “하일 교회”라고도 부르는 “하나님이 일하시는 교회”는 이름 자체가 교회가 존재하는 의미를 담고 있어서 좋습니다.

이번 수련회를 위해서 여선교회에서 3끼의 저녁식사를 준비해 주시기로 했습니다. 너무 감사를 드립니다. 우리 교회가 작년에는 중부지방 교역자 가족 수양회를 섬겼고, 금년에는 개척교회 지도자 수련회를 섬길 수 있어서 얼마나 감사한지 모르겠습니다. 이런 저런 모양으로 연회의 행사들을 섬기는 다른 교회들과 더불어 일년에 한번 정도 연회 행사를 도울 수 있다는 것이 우리 교회로서는 감사한 일이 아닐 수 없습니다.

다가오는 10월에는 여러분을 위한 귀한 은혜의 잔치들이 또한 준비되어 있습니다. 먼저 트로트 복음성가 가수로 유명하신 구자억 목사님이 미주 투어를 하시는 중, 10월 9일에 (금) 우리 교회에서 집회를 하게 되었습니다. 많은 이웃들과 함께 신나는 찬양집회를 통해 큰 기쁨의 은혜가 있기를 바랍니다. 그리고 구자억 목사님 찬양집회후 두주 뒤인 10월 23일부터 25일까지는 콜로라도 스프링스 지역 연합 부흥회가 역시 우리 교회에서 있겠습니다. 강사로는 달라스 한인교회를 크게 부흥시키신 이성철 목사님께서 오시게 됩니다. 미주에서 뜨거운 말씀을 전해 주시기로 소문난 강사님을 통해 풍성한 은혜의 자리로 나아가는 시간이 되길 또한 기도합니다.

열매의 계절인 이 가을에 이 귀한 집회들을 통해서 새 힘을 얻고 말씀 가운데 풍성한 믿음의 열매가 맺히는 시간이 되기를 바리면서 가을 인사를 대신합니다. 할렐루야!

Before we knew it, fall has arrived. This summer was so hot that I had almost forgotten about fall, but time has faithfully moved on, and now we find ourselves standing at the doorstep of a new season. We have already passed Cheoseo (August 23), which traditionally marks the time when the summer heat begins to fade, and Baengno (September 7), when the first cool dew begins to appear. And this coming Tuesday is the autumn equinox, when day and night are once again about the same length. It certainly feels like fall has finally arrived. The aspen leaves in central Colorado are also expected to reach their peak colors this coming week. And beginning this Thursday, the Chuseok holiday season begins as well. Just when I was beginning to relax a little at the end of summer, the cooler mornings and evenings seem to be telling me that it is time to get busy again.

From this coming Monday through Thursday, our church will host a “Church Planters Leadership Retreat,” sponsored by the Church Planting Committee of the Korean American Annual Conference. A total of 22 people will be coming—13 church-planting pastors, five pastors’ wives, and four conference leaders. Among the pastors attending are Pastor Youngkwan Park of “God at Work Church” in New York and Pastor Sangbum Lee of “Six Steps Church” in Chicago, both of whom our church supports through our mission giving. I am especially excited to see them again. (I have asked Pastor Park to preach at our Wednesday evening service and Pastor Lee to lead us in prayer. I hope many of you will come for this blessed worship.)

It was not something I intentionally planned, but I really like the names of both churches we support. “Six Steps Church” was named after the story of David bringing the Ark of the Covenant and stopping after every six steps to offer a sacrifice to God. “God at Work Church,” also called “Hail Church” for short in Korean, has a name I especially like because the name itself expresses what the church is all about—God at work.

For this retreat, our Women’s Missionary Society has graciously offered to prepare three dinners. I am very thankful. Last year, our church had the opportunity to host the clergy family retreat for the central district of the conference, and this year we are able to serve the Church Planters Leadership Retreat. What a blessing it is! Along with other churches that serve our Annual Conference in many different ways, I am grateful that our church can also help host a conference event about once a year.

There are also some wonderful opportunities for worship and spiritual renewal coming in October. First, Pastor Ja-eok Koo, well known for his unique style of Korean trot gospel music, will be stopping at our church on Friday, October 9, as part of his U.S. tour. I hope we can invite many of our friends and neighbors and experience the joy and blessing of worshiping together through lively praise.

Then, two weeks after Pastor Koo’s praise concert, the Colorado Springs Area Joint Revival will be held at our church from October 23 through 25. Our guest speaker will be Pastor Sungchul Lee, who has led significant growth at a Korean church in Dallas. He is well known among Korean churches in the United States for his passionate preaching, and I pray that through the messages he brings, we will all experience an abundant time of God’s grace.

As we enter this fall, the season of harvest, I pray that through these wonderful gatherings we will receive new strength and bear abundant fruit of faith through God’s Word. With this news, I welcome you to the fall season of 2026. Blessings!
