지난 주일 교인 총회가 은혜롭게 끝났습니다. 총회를 마치고 보니 지난 한해동안 교회를 위해서 수고하고 애써 주신 임원 여러분께 참으로 감사한 마음이 들었습니다.

먼저 몸이 아프셨던 가운데서도 지난 한해동안 임원회를 평화롭게 인도해 주신 김원섭 임원회장님께 감사를 드립니다. 집사님께서는 임원회가 감당해야 할 여러가지 복잡한 일들을 차분히 해결해 갈 수 있도록 anchor 역할을 든든히 해 주셔서 늘 마음으로 의지할 수 있었음에 감사를 드립니다. 영어권 평신도 지도자이신 Tom Moore 권사님도 그런 anchor 중에 한 분이십니다. 주일이면 제일 일찍 나오셔서 영어 예배를 준비해 주시고, 큰 행사때마다 제일 먼저 트럭을 몰고와서 도와주시는 모습이 늘 감사할 뿐입니다. 작년부터 한어권 평신도 지도자를 맡아 주신 노금옥 권사님께도 감사를 드립니다. 교회에 난제들이 생길 때마다 지혜롭게 풀려갈 수 있도록 뒤에서 많이 도와주신 일이 얼마나 힘이 되었는지 모릅니다. 

이번에 임기를 마치는 유혜란 연회 평신도 대표님, 박니나 목회위원장과 Gene Thornton 재단이사장님께는 특별한 감사를 드립니다. 유혜란 권사님께서는 저희 한미연회가 시작하고 자리를 잡는 지난 3년간 달라스 연회와 디트로이트 연회에 참석하시면서 우리 교회를 대표하는 연회원의 역활을 충실히 감당해 주셔서 얼마나 감사한지 모르겠습니다. 박니나 집사님께는 지난 2년간 새로 와서 좌충우돌하는 목사를 뒤에서 묵묵히 잘 support 해 주신 일에 대해 심심한 감사를 드립니다. Gene Thornton 집사님께서는 지난 5년간 재단 이사로, 또 지난 2년은 이사장으로 수고하시면서 무엇보다도 UMC 탈퇴에 관련된 수많은 법적 문제를 꼼꼼하게 챙겨 주셨습니다. 그 일이 얼마나 시간이 걸리고 머리 아픈 일인지 알기에 깊은 감사를 드립니다.

지난 일년간 아마도 제일 큰 수고를 해 주신 분은 권선자 재정부장님과 재무위원들이 아닐까 합니다. 매주일 제일 늦게까지 교회에 남아 헌금 계수를 해 주신 김삼수 권사님과 홍미남 집사님께, 그리고 주중에도 몇 번씩 교회에 나와 재정부 일을 봐 주신 권선자 재정부장님, 그리고 옆에서 그 일을 힘을 다해 도와주신 유남형 전 재정부장님께 깊은 감사를 드립니다. 그리고 지난 일년간 회의 자료를 너무 잘 정리해 주신 임원회 서기이신 박혜자 집사님께도 감사의 인사를 전하고 싶습니다. 회의내용을 다 녹음하셔서 집에 가서 다시 한번 들으면서 꼼꼼하게 회의록을 정리해 주셔서 임원회가 매달 순조롭게 잘 운영이 되었습니다.

이외에도 인선, 목회, 재단 위원회등 3대 행정 위원회를 섬겨 주신 위원 여러분과 예배, 선교, 전도, 교육, 친교등 5개의 사역부를 섬겨 주신 부장님들, 그리고 5개의 여선교회와 남선교회를 섬겨 주신 회장 및 임원 여러분들께도 심심한 감사를 드립니다.

회장, 또는 임원으로 섬긴다는 것이 결코 쉬운 일은 아닙니다. 지도자의 자리에 선다는 것은 맡은 일의 무게가 버겁고, 책임감으로 힘들고, 또한 사람들의 기대로 외롭고 허탈할 수 있는 그런 일입니다. 그럼에도 하늘의 상급과 이 땅의 열매를 바라보며 감사함으로 그 일을 감당해 주신, 그리고 앞으로도 감당해 주실 여러분께 깊은 감사와 힘찬 응원을 보내 드립니다. 감사, 감사합니다!!!

Last Sunday’s Church Conference was full of grace! As I reflect upon the meeting, my heart is full of gratitude for each of the leaders and officials who have served so faithfully for our church throughout this past year. First, I want to thank our Chair of the Church Council, Deacon Wonseop Kim, who guided our Council meetings with grace and steadiness even while dealing with personal health challenges. He has served as a true anchor, helping us navigate the various complex matters before us with calmness and wisdom. I am sincerely grateful for the confidence and stability he has provided.

Our English Ministry lay leader, Exhorter Tom Moore, is also one of those anchors. He is the first to arrive every Sunday to prepare for the English Service, and during big events he is always the first to show up with his truck ready to help. His faithful service is something for which I am always thankful. I am equally grateful to Exhorter Kim Olson, who has served as our Korean Ministry lay leader since last year. Whenever challenges arose in the church, she quietly and wisely supported our ministry from behind the scenes, providing help that was truly invaluable. So, kudos to our Lay Leaders!

I also want to offer a special word of thanks to those who are completing their terms this year: Exhorter Haeran Yoo, our Annual Conference Lay Delegate; Deacon Nina Pak, Chair of the SPRC; and Deacon Gene Thornton, Chair of the Board of Trustees. Exhorter Yoo faithfully represented our church as an Annual Conference member over the past three years, attending both the historical Dallas and Detroit Annual Conferences as our denomination underwent important transitions. I cannot express enough gratitude for her dedication. To Deacon Park, I extend my heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering support she has given this pastor over the past two years—especially as I was still learning and adjusting in those early months. Deacon Thornton has served on the Board of Trustees for five years, including two years as Chair. Above all, he diligently handled the many legal matters related to our disaffiliation from the UMC—work that required time, expertise, and patience. I offer him my sincere thanks.

Perhaps the individuals who carried the heaviest load this past year were Finance Chair Sunja Lee and the Finance Committee members. My deep gratitude goes to Exhorter Sam Soo Thomsen and Deacon Minam Pitchford, who stayed late at church every Sunday to count the offering; to Chairperson Lee, who came to church multiple times each week to manage financial matters; and to the former Finance Chair Namhyung Seo, who also tirelessly assisted in every way needed. I also want to thank our Church Council Secretary, Deacon Helen Park, who prepared the minutes with great excellence throughout the year. She recorded every meeting, listened again at home, and organized the minutes with such care that our Council could run smoothly month after month.

Beyond these, I extend my sincere thanks to the members of our three administrative committees’ members — Nominations, SPRC, and Trustees — as well as to the heads of the five ministry departments: Worship, Missions, Evangelism, Education, and Fellowship. I also thank the presidents and officers of our five Women’s Mission Groups and Men’s Mission Group for their faithful service.

To serve as a leader or officer is never an easy task. Leadership often brings the weight of responsibility, the burden of expectations, and at times the loneliness that comes with standing at the front. And yet, they have carried out their roles with joy and gratitude, looking toward the reward of heaven and the fruit borne here on earth. For their past faithfulness—and for their continued willingness to serve — I offer my heartfelt thanks! THANK YOU AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
