한미교회 화이팅! (New Year's Hope)

새해가 밝았습니다. Happy New Year! 새해에는 더 크고 놀라운 하나님의 은혜가 한미식구 모두의 삶과 가정에 가득하길 축원드립니다.
금년은 우리 교회가 공식적인 글로벌 감리교회로서 맞게 되는 첫해입니다. 물론 새교단에 가입한 시기는 재작년 7월이지만, 그동안은 과도기에 속해 있었고, 지난 9월 글로벌 감리교회가 창립총회를 통해 정식으로 출범하였기에 이제서야 우리가 속한 한미연회도, 그리고 우리 교회도 “과도기”란 말을 뺀 정식 글로벌 감리교회로서 시작을 하게 된 것입니다.
그렇게 맞게 된 첫해이기에 금년도 교회 표어를 우리 교단의 표어와 같은 것으로 정해 보았습니다.
먼저 따듯한 예배가 있는 교회가 되었으면 합니다. 감리교단의 창시자이신 웨슬리 목사님은 그의 인생이 바닥을 쳤을 때에 올더스게이트라는 런던의 거리에 위치한 교회에 예배 드리러 들어갔다가 “마음이 따듯해지는” 성령의 체험을 하고는 감리교 부흥운동을 시작한 것으로 유명합니다. 그와 같이 우리 예배가 하나님의 은혜를 갈망하며 모인 모든 이들의 마음을 따듯하게 하는 그런 위로와 변화의 역사가 있는 예배가 되기를 소망합니다.
또한 넉넉한 사랑이 있는 교회가 되었으면 합니다. 인생을 살아감에 있어 사랑의 공동체가 있다는 것만큼 힘이 되는 것은 없습니다. 하나님께서도 세상을 창조하실 때, 딱 한가지 좋지 않다고 하신 것이 있는데, 바로 혼자 있는 사람 (아담)의 모습이었습니다. 넉넉한 사랑 가운데 우리 모두가 서로에게 가족이 되어 주어 혼자 힘들게 인생을 살아가는 외로운 사람이 없는 그런 교회가 된다면 아마도 하나님께서 무척이나 좋아하실 것 같습니다.
마지막으로 힘찬 복음이 있는 교회입니다. 예수님께서 이 땅에서 가르치고 보여 주신 일, 그리고 그분의 죽음과 부활하심으로 이루신 일들을 부끄러워하지 아니하고 지역 사회와 세계를 향해 힘차게 나누는 교회가 계속해서 되기를 소망합니다. 또한 우리 개인의 삶이 예수님의 사랑을 전하는 살아있는 복음이 되어 이웃들을 천국으로 인도하는 그런 기쁨이 넘쳐나는 복음의 공동체가 될 수만 있다면 바랄 것이 더 없겠지요?
지난 한해동안 “밝고 따듯한” 교회가 되기 위해서 애썼는데, 그 밝고 따듯함이 우리의 예배와 교제, 그리고 선교의 사역 가운데 풍성하게 임하는 새해가 되기를 기도합니다. 금년에도 선한 일을 우리 가운데 이루실 하나님의 은혜와 능력에 감사드리며, 그 믿음 가운데 우리 모두를 위한 “파이팅!”을 크게 외쳐 봅니다.
“한미교회, 파이팅!” 따듯한 예배와 넘치는 사랑, 그리고 힘찬 복음이 있는 교회로 성장하는 2025년이 되기를 두 손 들어 축복합니다! 아멘!

"Happy New Year! As the new year dawns, I pray that every family in Hanmi Church will be filled with God’s fresh and renewing grace throughout the year ahead."
This year marks a significant milestone as our church embarks on its first full year as an official member of the Global Methodist Church. Although we joined the Global Methodist Church in July two years ago, we remained in a transitional phase until September, when the denomination officially launched at its inaugural General Conference. Now, both our Korean American Annual Conference and our church are beginning this journey as fully established members of the Global Methodist Church, leaving the "transitional" label behind.
In light of this milestone, I felt it fitting to align our church's 2025 theme with that of the Global Methodist Church.
First, I hope we become a church with passionate worship. John Wesley, the founder of our Methodist movement, famously began the Methodist revival after experiencing the “warming of the heart” by the Holy Spirit while attending a worship service at a church on Aldersgate Street in London at the lowest point in his life. In the same way, I hope our worship will be filled with the comforting and transforming power of God’s grace, warming the hearts of all those who gather in God’s name.
Second, I hope that we become a church with abundant love. There’s nothing more empowering in life than being part of a loving community. When God created the world, the only thing that was declared "not good" was Adam’s being alone. I believe God would be deeply pleased if our church becomes a place where no one has to face the struggles of life alone. Let us strive to be a church where love overflows, transforming us into a family that walks together through life’s joys and challenges, ensuring no one is ever alone in their struggles.
Lastly, I hope we become a church of bold witnessing. May we boldly share the teachings, works, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ with our local community and the world, without shame or hesitation. Moreover, may our individual lives serve as living testimonies of Jesus’ love, joyfully guiding our neighbors toward the kingdom of heaven.
Over the past year, we have dedicated ourselves to becoming a 'bright and warm' church. As we step into this new year, let us build on that foundation, allowing the light of Christ to shine even brighter and the warmth of His love to radiate even further.
