지난 주일 금년도 첫 임원회가 있었습니다. 교회 임원직이 쉽지 않은 자리임에도 불구하고 진정 섬기는 마음으로 임원 직분을 감당해 주시는 여러분께 심심한 감사를 드립니다.
삶의 여러가지 제약과 사정이 있지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 주님의 몸 된 교회를 위해서 시간과 물질, 그리고 은사를 아끼지 않고 드리는 귀한 손길을 통해 주님의 교회가 든든히 세워지며, 세상을 향하여 빛과 소금이 되어야 하는 막중한 사명을 잘 감당하게 되는 줄 믿습니다.
임원 수련회 시간을 통해서 글로벌 감리교단의 장정이 이야기하는 교회 조직에 대해서 배우고 또한 2025년 한해동안 우리 교회가 지향해야 할 교회의 모습에 대해서 이야기를 나누면서 금년도 교회 사역 키워드를 “기도하는 교회”로 정하게 되었습니다. 무엇보다도 함께 기도하면서 힘을 모아 하나님의 놀라운 일을 함께 경험하며 이뤄가는 귀한 한미교회가 되리라 믿습니다.
토요일에는 금년도 첫번째 속장/인도자 모임이 있었습니다. 우리 교회 속회 운영에 대해 전반적으로 살펴보고 새롭게 실행되는 연합 속회에 관한 이야기도 나눴습니다. 연합속회는 매월 마지막 주일에 전 교인이 함께 모여 함께 찬양하고 기도하며, 말씀도 나누는 “큰 속회”가 되겠습니다. 기존의 모임과는 조금 다르게 게임도 하고 상품도 나누고 하는 “속회축제”로 준비하고 있으니 많은 기대와 참석을 바랍니다.
토요일 새벽에는 또한 마지막 토요 특별 축복 새벽 기도회를 가졌습니다. 특별히 여선교회 회원들을 축복하는 시간에는 가장 연장자인 한나 여선교회 분들이 그 다음 세대인 루디아 여선교회 회원들을, 그리고 루디아 여선교회가 우리 교회에서 가장 일을 많이 하는 에스더 여선교회 회원들을 축복해 주고, 이어서 젊은 층인 마르다와 마리아 여선교회를 차례로 함께 축복해 주는 시간을 가졌습니다. 특별히 우리 교회에서 가장 약한 마리아 여선교회가 부흥하는 한 해가 되기를 함께 힘을 모아 기도할 때는 우리 교회의 간절함이 뜨겁게 느껴지는 시간이었습니다. 이어서 비록 많이 나오지는 않았지만 남선교회분들도 “손을 들어 기도하는” 기도의 용사들이 되기를 간절히 바라며 함께 마음을 모아 축복하는 시간을 가졌습니다.
금년 한해동안 우리 손을 모아 기도하는 것마다 하나님의 능력과 영광이 드러나는 놀라운 일들이 되기를 바라며, 기도회에 나온 참석자들에게 손에 쥐고 기도할 수 있는 손십자가를 하나씩 선물로 드렸습니다.
오늘 주일에 2025년도 교인 요람과 주소록을 나눠드리게 됩니다. 지난 한달간 자료를 수집하고 정리하고 편집하느라 김성태 목사님께서 수고가 참 많으셨습니다. 감사드리며, 힘든 작업 끝에 나온 이 책자가 여러분이 교회 생활을 하는데 많은 도움이 되기를 바랍니다.
교인 핸드북을 끝내 놓으니 지난 교인총회때부터 시작했던 새해 준비를 이제서야 마치는 기분입니다. 오는 수요일이 구정인데 ... 김광석씨의 “이제 다시 시작이다!” 라는 이등병의 노래 가사 한 소절이 생각나네요. 새 날을 향한 가득한 기대로 이 해 첫 달을 보냅니다.
Last Sunday, we held our first Church Council of the year. I am really to all of the officers who, despite the challenges and responsibilities of life, faithfully responded to the call with a genuine heart of service. I am firmly convinced that through their dedication and hard work, our church is firmly established to fulfill its mission of being the light and salt to the world.
During the leadership retreat, we learned about the church structure as outlined in the Discipline of the Global Methodist Church. We also discussed the vision for our church in 2025, and we have come up with this year’s keyword for our church: “A Praying Church.” I believe that as we come together in prayer, God’s amazing works among us will be revealed in many surprising ways.
On Saturday, we held the first meeting of this year’s small group leaders. We reviewed the overall operation of our small groups and shared plans for a newly implemented monthly small group festival. This Small Group Festival will take place on the last Sunday of every month, where the entire congregation will gather to sing praises, pray, and share the Word together. Unlike regular gatherings, this event will also include games and prizes, making it truly a “Small Group Festival.”
Last Friday, we also concluded the final Special Saturday Blessing Prayer Meeting for this season. A particularly moving moment was when the different women’s mission groups blessed one another. The Hannah Women’s Mission, the oldest group, blessed the Lydia Women’s Mission, the next generation. Then, Lydia blessed the Esther Women’s Mission, which is the most active group in our church, followed by blessings for the younger groups, Martha and Mary Women’s Mission. It was especially touching to pray for the revival of the Mary Women’s Mission, the smallest and weakest among us.
Although fewer members of the Men’s Mission attended, we also prayed for them to become “prayer warriors” who lift their hands in prayer. It was a meaningful time of joining hearts to bless one another. As a tangible reminder of the power of prayer, we gave each participant a small hand-cross as a gift, encouraging them to hold it while praying throughout the year. May every prayer we lift up together this year result in God’s mighty power and glory being revealed in amazing ways.
Today, we are distributing the 2025 Church Directory. I want to extend my deep appreciation to Rev. Daniel Kim for his dedicated efforts in collecting, organizing, and editing the data over the past month. This labor-intensive work has resulted in a resource that I hope will help and guide you in your church life.
With the completion of the handbook, it feels as though we are finally wrapping up preparations for the new year, which began with the last church conference. Nostalgically, I am reminded of the lyric from Kim Kwang-seok’s “A Private’s Song,” where it says “It’s the time to begin again!” May we embark on this year with hope and faith, united in prayer, as we step into the promises of God together.
