네팔의 산토스 형제가 많이 아프다고 합니다. 복수가 차서 병원에 입원했다가 퇴원을 했는데 암이 복막으로도 퍼져서 장 유착이 되어 식사를 못하고 수액으로 영양분을 공급받고 있다고 합니다. 선교에 소명을 가지고 열심히 선교사님을 도와 사역을 하던 형제가 이렇게 아픈 상황이 되어 옆에서 돌보는 구복음 선교사님께서 많이 안타까워 하십니다. 우리 교회에서 몇 분의 성도님들께서 특별히 마음을 써 주셔서 사순절 때 모아 보낸 성금을 합하여 만 불에 가까운 치료비로 세번에 걸쳐 보냈는데, 어려운 상황 가운데 있는 산토스 형제에게 큰 힘이 되었다고 많이 고마워하십니다. 계속해서 여러분의 기도를 부탁드립니다.
지난 4월 우리 교회를 방문하셨던 탁요셉 선교사님께서 꾸준히 소식을 보내 주고 계십니다. 선교사님께서 튀르키예에서 섬기고 있는 15개의 가정 교회 중 6개의 가정교회를 지난 5월부터 매월 우리 교회에서 후원하고 있습니다. 세 분이 각각 두 가정 교회를 후원해 주시기로 자청하셔서 6교회 후원을 시작하였고, 그외 후원을 원하시는 분이 더 있어서 8교회까지 늘려 보려고 하고 있습니다. 튀르키예 상황이 많이 어려운 것 같습니다. 아프간 난민을 더 이상 받아 주려 하지 않는 가운데 매년 해야 하는 난민 신청에 떨어지는 경우가 많아 다시 아프가니스탄으로 쫓겨나거나 그리스로 밀입국하게 되는 경우가 많다고 합니다. 그런 상황 속에서 가정 교회 교인들의 변동이 많아 안정적인 사역이 매우 어렵다고 합니다.
그런 가운데 새 아이가 태어나고, 실족했던 교우가 돌아오고, 세례식이 거행되고, 단기선교팀이 활발하게 사역하고, 선교사님의 비자가 기적같이 하루만에 나오는 등 멈추지 않고 흐르는 은혜의 역사가 있었음을 또한 알려 오셨습니다. 네팔에서도 매주 새가족이 찾아오고 50명이 넘는 동네 아이들이 교회에 와서 동네 잔치를 벌리는 신나는 일이 있었다고 합니다.
얼마전에 통일소망 선교회에서 소식을 보내오셨습니다. 작년에 선교바자회 기금으로 만 불을 보냈었는데 그 돈으로는 차량을 구입하기가 어려워 일년을 가지고 있다가 지난 달 드디어 돈을 조금 더 보태어 좋은 중고 차량을 구입할 수 있었다는 소식이었습니다. 이빌립 목사님께서 일이 늦게 진행되어 죄송하다는 말씀과 함께 오는 10월에 미국에 오게 되는데 우리 교회를 방문하고 인사를 드리고 싶다고 하셔서 10월 첫째주에 오시는 것으로 약속을 잡았습니다.
선교사역이 결코 만만치 않은 것 같습니다. 이번 8월에 선교 부흥회를 인도하러 오시는 강영철 선교사님도 힘들고 어려운 상황 가운데 지난 40년을 동두천의 아이들을 위해서, 그리고 최근에는 한국에서 많아지고 있는 이중문화 가정의 아이들을 위해서 애써 오고 계십니다. 이번 선교 부흥회 기간동안 나눠 주실 그 분의 삶과 사역 가운데 보여 주신 하나님의 은혜의 이야기들이 기대가 됩니다.
네팔의 구복음 선교사님께서 사역하시는 열방은혜교회 마당에 아보카도 나무와 망고 나무를 심었다고 전해오셨습니다. 그러면서 예수님 말씀에 작은 씨앗이 30, 60,100배 열매 맺는 나무로 자라나듯 그렇게 하나님의 나라가 확장되길 소망한다고 적어 주셨습니다.
그것을 보는 것이 우리의 기쁨이요, 그것을 소망하는 것이 우리의 믿음이 아닌가 합니다.

We have received word that Brother Santos from Nepal is very ill. He was hospitalized due to ascites and later discharged, but the cancer has spread to the peritoneum, causing intestinal adhesions that prevent him from eating. He is now receiving nutrition through IV fluids. Brother Santos had a clear calling to missions and served diligently alongside the missionary, but now he is in this difficult condition. Missionary Gu Bok-eum, who is caring for him, is deeply saddened.
A couple of members of our church showed special concern for him, and together with the offering collected during Lent, we were able to send nearly $10,000 in three installments for his treatment. This has been a great help and encouragement to Brother Santos in his time of need. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
Missionary Joseph Tak, who visited our church this past April, has been faithfully keeping us updated. Among the 15 house churches he serves in Türkiye, our church has been supporting 6 of them since May. Three families in our church each volunteered to support two house churches, and now there is interest from additional families, so we are looking to expand our support to 8 churches.
The situation in Türkiye is very difficult. The government no longer accepts Afghan refugees, and many who fail their annual refugee status renewal are either deported back to Afghanistan or forced to enter Greece illegally. In such circumstances, the membership of the house churches fluctuates greatly, making it very challenging to sustain stable ministry.
Yet, in the midst of this, God’s grace continues to flow without ceasing: a new baby was born, a member who had stumbled returned, baptisms were held, short-term mission teams actively served, and the missionary’s visa was miraculously granted in just one day! In Nepal as well, new families have been coming each week, and over 50 neighborhood children gathered at the church for a church-sponsored village festival!
Recently, Tongil Hope Mission sent us an update. Last year, we sent $10,000 from our mission bazaar proceeds to help purchase a vehicle. At the time, it was not enough to buy one, so they held onto the funds for a year, and last month they were finally able to add some more funds and purchase a good used vehicle. Rev. Philip Lee expressed his apologies for the delay and also shared that he will be visiting the U.S. in October. He would like to visit our church to thank us, and we have arranged for him to come the first week of October.
Mission work is never easy. Pastor James Kang-McCann, who will be leading our upcoming Mission Revival in August, has also served in challenging circumstances, faithfully for the past 40 years —first for the children of Dongducheon, and more recently for children from the growing number of multicultural families in Korea. We look forward to hearing the testimonies of God’s grace revealed through his life and ministry during the revival.
Missionary Gu Bok-eum in Nepal also shared that they recently planted avocado and mango trees in the yard of All Nations Grace Church, where he serves. He hopes that, just as the small seed in Jesus’ parable grows into a tree that bears fruit thirty, sixty, or a hundred times over, God’s kingdom would likewise expand. To witness that is, indeed, our joy, and to hope for it is our faith.
