선교 바자회가 많은 분들의 수고로 큰 은혜 가운데 끝났습니다. 참 수고 많으셨습니다!
우리 교회 바자회는 몇 년 전부터 열무김치 판매로 시작하는 전통이 생겼습니다. 이번에도 김원섭 집사님 가정에서 정성껏 기르신 열무를 한 보따리 가져다주셔서, 열무김치 20병을 담가 바자회 전주부터 판매를 시작하며 선교 바자회의 시작을 알릴 수 있었습니다. 집사님께 감사 인사를 드렸더니, “목사님, 제가 언제까지 할 수 있을지 모르지만 아직까지는 이렇게 도울 수 있으니 감사할 뿐입니다”라고 답해 주셔서, 제 마음이 찡했었습니다.
목요일 저녁, 교회에서 늦은 시간까지 수수부꾸미를 부치시고 계시던 류광자 사모님과 백정숙 권사님을 뵙고 감사 인사를 드렸더니, “목사님, 우리가 앞으로 몇 번이나 더 이 일을 할 수 있겠어요. 그래도 아직은 이렇게 교회를 위해 봉사할 수 있으니 감사하죠”라고 하셔서, 그 말씀이 다시 한번 마음이 뭉클했었습니다.
그렇게 이번 바자회도 많은 분들의 수고와 헌신이 있었습니다. 뜨거운 불판 앞에서 하루 종일 부추전을 부치시면서, 새벽부터 김밥을 마시느라 허리 펼 틈도 없으셨던 ... 무더운 부엌에서 비지땀을 흘리며 냉면을 말고, 손이 불어 트도록 설거지를 해내신 여러분들! 주문을 받고 계산하시느라 식사도 거르셨던 ... 그리고 땡볕 아래서 하나라도 더 팔기 위해 애써주신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다.
또한 이른 아침부터 나와서 텐트를 설치하고 테이블과 박스를 나르며 묵묵히 수고해주신 남선교회 여러분께도 특별한 감사를 전합니다. 청년부도 이번 바자회에 한 몫을 감당해 주었는데, 하루 종일 아이스 커피와 달고나를 판매하며 함께해준 청년부에게도 고마운 마음을 전합니다. 무엇보다 이 모든 일들을 몇 주 전부터 준비하는라 수고해 주신 남정희 총여선교회 회장님께 깊은 감사를 드립니다.
한편, 몸이 불편하거나 사정상 직접 봉사에 참여하지 못한 분들도 많은 물건을 사 주시며 마음을 모아주셨습니다. 그 정성 또한 큰 힘이 되었습니다. 소문난 돼지족발은 바자회가 시작되기도 전에 몇몇 분의 대량 (?!) 구매로 모두 판매되었다는 기쁜 소식도 들었습니다. 이처럼 많은 분들의 손길을 통해 선하고 아름다운 일을 이루신 하나님께 모든 감사와 영광을 올려드립니다.
문득 저의 첫 담임목회가 떠올랐습니다. 꼭 40살 되던 해, 한인교회에 파송을 받아 목회를 시작했는데, 그 무렵 부모님께서 세탁소를 하시며 주 70시간씩 일하시는 모습을 보며, ‘목회자는 그보다 더 해야 하지 않을까?’ 하는 마음으로 주 80시간을 목표 삼아 사역에 임했던 기억이 납니다. 지금은 감히 상상도 못할 일이지만, 이번 바자회를 통해 보여주신 여러분의 헌신을 보며 그 시절이 떠올랐고, 저 자신도 다시 마음을 다져보는 시간이 되었습니다.
우리 모두 언제까지 이 일을 감당할 수 있을지 알 수 없지만, 지금 이 순간, 오늘도 우리에게 건강과 힘을 주셔서 감당하게 하신 하나님의 은혜가 참 감사합니다. 그래서 다시 한번 마음 속으로 외쳐봅니다. “가즈아~!”

By God’s grace, our Mission Bazaar was carried out successfully.
In recent years, our church has developed a tradition of beginning the bazaar with the sale of young radish kimchi. Once again, this year, Deacon Wonseop Kim and his family brought in a generous bundle of homegrown young radishes, which allowed us to make 20 jars of kimchi and begin sales a week early, effectively announcing the start of the bazaar. When I thanked him, he humbly replied, “Pastor, I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to do this, but for now, I’m simply thankful that I still can.” His words deeply touched my heart.
On Thursday evening, as Mrs. Kwangja Ryu and Exhorter Chungsook Gregory were staying late to make susubukkumi (millet pancakes), I thanked them as well. They said, “Pastor, who knows how many more times we’ll be able to do this? But we’re just thankful that we’re still able to serve the church like this.” Their words again stirred something deep within me.
This year’s bazaar was again filled with many people’s hard work and dedication. To all who stood by the hot griddle all day making buchujeon (garlic chive pancakes), to those who rolled kimbap from early morning without a moment to straighten their backs, to those who were so busy taking orders and counting change that they missed lunch, to those who endured the heat in the kitchen despite running multiple fans, making cold noodles and washing dishes until their hands were raw — thank you! And to everyone who stood under the hot sun all day trying to sell just one more item — thank you so much!
A special word of thanks also goes to the Men’s Group, who came early in the morning to set up tents, carry tables, and unload boxes without complaint. The Young Adults’ Group also played a part in the bazaar this year, selling iced coffee and dalgona all day long. I’m so thankful to see them participating in the bazaar. Above all, I offer deep gratitude to Mrs. Chonghui Clay, president of the Women’s Mission Fellowship, who faithfully planned and prepared everything over the past several weeks.
Many who were unable to serve in person due to health or other circumstances also contributed by purchasing many goods — your support was just as meaningful. I even heard the joyful news that our famously delicious braised pig’s feet (jokbal) sold out before the bazaar officially began, thanks to a few generous bulk orders! Through all these efforts, great and small, God accomplished something beautiful and faithful through our hands. To Him be all the glory and thanks!
This event also brought back memories of my first pastoral appointment. I was 40 years old when I was first appointed to serve a Korean-American church. At the time, my parents were running a dry-cleaning business, working 70 hours a week. Watching them, I thought, “Shouldn’t I, as a pastor, work even harder?” So I set a personal goal to work 80 hours a week in ministry. Looking back, it’s something I couldn’t imagine doing now — but people’s dedication at this bazaar reminded me of those early days, and it became a moment for me to renew my heart once again.
We don’t know how much longer we’ll be able to do this kind of work, but today—right now—I am grateful for the grace of God who gives us the strength and health to keep going. And so, once more, I find myself shouting from the heart: “Let’s go!”
