참으로 바쁘고도 은혜로웠던 6월이 저물어갑니다.
6월의 첫날이자 첫 주일, 예배를 마치자마자 연회 참석을 위해 공항으로 서둘러 발걸음을 옮기며 시작한 이 달은, 그 바쁜 걸음이 6월 내내 계속된 것 같습니다. 연회를 마친 후에는 Winter Park에서 있었던 Korean Heritage Camp에 교인 몇 분과 함께 참여했고, 그 다음 주는 여름성경학교를 돕는다고 한주 내내 마음이 들떠 있었고, 신나게 여름성경학교를 마치고는 잠시 숨 고를 틈도 없이 한미연회 중부지방 목회자 가족 수양회를 호스트 해야 했고, 그 와중에 오택근 목사님 초청 교회 창립 43주년 감사 찬양집회 준비, 홈리스 선교, 그리고 오늘 있는 야외예배 준비까지 참으로 바쁜 6월 한달을 보낸 것 같습니다.
그럼에도 불구하고, 저에게 6월은 언제나 매력적인 달입니다. 시골에서 목회하던 시절, 6월이면 일리노이의 넓은 들판이 청록빛 옥수수 새싹으로 뒤덮이는 장관을 보곤 했습니다. 이제 막 자라나기 시작한 옥수수의 줄기와 이파리들이 뿜어내는 ‘시퍼런’ 생명력은 보는 것만으로도 가슴을 뛰게 만들었고, 그 생명의 색은 마치 내게도 시퍼런 생기를 불어넣는 듯했습니다.
그런 6월의 생명력처럼, 우리 교회도 지난 한달 참으로 힘차게 달려왔습니다.
무엇보다 지난주에 있었던 목회자 가족 수양회를 위해 섬겨주신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다. 이민 목회는 목회자뿐만 아니라 그 가족에게도 큰 어려움과 상처가 될 수 있습니다. 그러나 이번 수양회를 통해, 특히 여러분의 정성스러운 섬김을 통해 많은 위로와 격려를 받았다는 참가자들의 고백을 들으며, 아픈 허리와 어깨를 참아가며 헌신해주신 여러분께 깊은 감사를 드립니다.
또한 4년 만에 다시 열린 여름성경학교를 위해 애써주신 모든 분들도 결코 잊을 수 없습니다. 아이들이 너무 즐거워했다는 부모님들의 이야기, 집에서도 찬양을 부르고 말씀 구절을 외우며 VBS의 은혜를 나눈다는 소식을 들으며, 목이 쉬도록 수고해주신 여러분께 깊은 감사를 드립니다.
6월의 홈리스 선교는 여름성경학교와 일정이 겹쳐 걱정이 있었지만, 신실하게 함께해주시는 분들과 새롭게 함께해주신 세 분 덕분에 넉넉히 감당할 수 있었습니다. 바쁜 일정 속에서도 이웃 사랑의 손길을 놓지 않으신 여러분께 다시 한번 감사드립니다. 홈리스 선교와 함께 입양아와 그 가족들을 위한 Heritage Camp에서 수고해 주신 여러분의 사역을 보게 된 것도 6월의 큰 축복이었습니다. 큰 아픔 가운데 살아갈 수 있는 이들을 위해서 귀한 은혜와 사랑의 오아시스를 위해 10년, 20년, 때론 30년이 되도록 신실하게 섬겨 주시는 모습은 큰 감동이었습니다.
오늘은 야외예배로 드리게 됩니다. 생명을 허락하시고 놀라운 은혜로 우리를 매일같이 감싸시는 하나님의 사랑이 풍성하게 임하는 복된 하루가 되길 바랍니다. 맛있게 많이 드시고, 기쁨으로 즐겁게 하루를 보내시는 가운데, 6월의 화창한 생명의 기운이 여러분의 삶 가득히, 구석 구석까지 아낌없이 “철철” 넘치도록 채워지기를 축원드립니다!

A truly busy yet grace-filled month of June is drawing to a close.
This month began with a rush—right after the Sunday service on the very first day of June, I had to hurry to the airport to attend the annual conference. That fast pace seemed to continue throughout the entire month.
After returning from the conference, I joined a few of our church members at the Korean Heritage Camp in Winter Park. The following week was spent joyfully preparing for and participating in Vacation Bible School. As soon as VBS concluded, we jumped right into hosting the Central District Pastors and Families Retreat—without a moment to catch our breath. And amidst it all, we were also preparing for our 43rd Church Anniversary Praise Night with Pastor Taek Geun Oh, continuing our commitment to homeless ministry, and organizing today’s outdoor worship service. Truly, it has been a whirlwind of activity.
Yet for me, June is always a beautiful and inspiring month. When I served in the countryside, I loved seeing the vast fields of Illinois come alive with rows of young corn shoots. Their vivid, vibrant green—a striking, almost electric blue-green—radiated such vitality that just looking at them made my heart beat faster. It felt as though that color was breathing fresh life into my own spirit.
In much the same way, our church has radiated that same vibrant energy throughout this past month.
I want to especially thank all those who served during last week’s pastors and families retreat. Ministry in the immigrant context can be deeply challenging and even hurting, not only to pastors but also for their families. But through your faithful and heartfelt service — especially the warm, home-cooked meals — participants shared how much comfort and encouragement they received. I am deeply grateful to each and every one who served through sore backs and tired shoulders.
I also cannot forget those who revived Vacation Bible School after four years. Hearing from parents how much their children enjoyed it, how they continue singing VBS songs and reciting memory verses at home — these messages of thanks have been tremendous encouragements to all who served. To all those who poured themselves out to the point of losing voices, thank you so much for your wonderful ministry!
There were some concerns when homeless ministry coincided with VBS this month, but thanks to our faithful regulars — and three new volunteers — we were able to serve more than enough. Thank you for continuing to extend hands of compassion even in the midst of full schedules. And witnessing the ministry of those who served at the Heritage Camp for adoptees and their families was another blessing of June. Seeing individuals who have walked alongside adoptees for 10, 20, even 30 years — faithfully creating oases of grace and love — was deeply moving.
Today, we gather for outdoor worship. May this be a day overflowing with the love of God — the One who gives us life and surrounds us daily with His amazing grace. Enjoy the food, the fellowship, and the joy of this day. May the warm, life-filled spirit of June overflow into every corner of your life!
