은혜 가운데 한미연회가 잘 마치고 돌아왔습니다. 우리 교회에서는 저와 제 아내를 비롯해 김성태 부목사님, 유혜란 평신도 연회 대표, 노금옥 평신도 지도자, 박니나 목회위원장, 김선희 선교부장님 등 총 7명이 함께 참석하였습니다.
이번 연회는 작년 9월, 글로벌 감리교단의 총회에서 그동안 'Provisional(준비)' 연회였던 모든 연회들이 정식 연회로 승인된 이후 처음으로 열린 공식 연회였다는 점에서 특별한 역사적 의미를 지닌 자리였습니다. 지난해 달라스에서 첫 한미(준비)연회가 모였을 때의 감격이 다시금 떠오를 만큼, 이번 연회 역시 깊은 감사와 감동이 있는 시간이었습니다.
무엇보다도 디트로이트 한인감리교회의 섬김이 참으로 인상적이었습니다. 보통 연회 준비팀은 각자 알아서 비행장에서 우버를 타고 호텔로 오곤 했는데, 이번에는 연회 전날 새벽 1시까지 도착하는 연회 임원들과 평신도 대표들을 교회 성도님들이 직접 공항에서 픽업해 주셨습니다. 게다가 준비해 주신 김밥 한 줄까지도 따뜻한 마음이 느껴졌고, 연회 기간 내내 정성껏 준비해 주신 식사들은 미쉐린 3스타 레스토랑 못지않은 수준이었습니다. 그 섬김과 사랑 속에 하나님의 은혜가 더욱 풍성히 느껴지는 복된 연회가 되었기에, 다시 한번 감사를 드리며 주님께 찬양을 올려 드립니다.
연회 첫날에는 류계환 총감리사님의 취임식이 있었습니다. 여러분도 잘 아시다시피, 류 목사님은 연합감리교단 한인총회 시절부터 선교총무로, 그리고 한미연회가 준비연회로 출발했을 때는 Chief Operating Officer로서 오랜 시간 한인교회와 연회를 위해 헌신해 오신 분입니다. 이번에 한미연회가 정식으로 출범하면서, 글로벌 감리교단이 새롭게 제정한 직책인 ‘총감리사’로 류 목사님이 취임하시게 되었고, 모두가 기쁜 마음으로 취임식을 드릴 수 있었습니다. 제1대 총감리사로 부르심을 받은 류 목사님의 사역이 하나님 앞에 온전히 쓰임받을 수 있도록 계속해서 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.
둘째 날에는 2026년 9월 남아프리카공화국에서 열리는 제2차 글로벌 감리교회 총회에 한미연회를 대표해 참석할 대의원 선출이 있었습니다. 부족한 제가 이번에도 다시 대의원 4명 중 한 사람으로 선출되었습니다. 하나님의 뜻 안에서 글로벌 감리교단이 바르게 세워질 수 있도록 마음과 생각을 모으는 일에 작은 몫이라도 감당할 수 있도록 기도 부탁드립니다.
그 외에도 여선교회 연합회 창립예배, 4명의 목회자 안수식, 지난 1년 동안 하나님의 부르심을 받은 목회자를 기리는 추모예배, 그리고 귀한 사역을 마치고 은퇴하시는 목회자들을 축복하는 은퇴예배 등 다양한 일정이 3박 4일간 은혜 가운데 잘 진행되었습니다.
부목사님과 제가 없는 동안에도 교회는 든든히 세워지고 있었습니다. 새벽기도와 수요예배를 위해 수고해 주신 분들께 감사드리며, 중고등부는 학부모님들의 도움으로 ATV 아웃팅도 잘 마쳤다고 들었습니다. 이처럼 각자의 자리에서 교회를 신실하게 섬겨 주시는 여러분 덕분에 참으로 마음이 든든하네요. 연회도, 교회도 주님 안에서 성실히, 그리고 열정을 다해 섬겨 주시는 이들이 많으니 ... 참 마음이 든든합니다!

By God’s grace, the Korean American Annual Conference was completed well. From our church, a total of seven people attended: myself and my wife, Associate Pastor Rev. Daniel Kim, Lay Delegate Haeran Yoo, Lay Leader Kim Olson, SPRC Chair Nina Pak, and Director of Missions Son Kim.
This annual conference held special historical significance, as it was the first official gathering since the Global Methodist Church formally recognized all previously provisional annual conferences as fully established at last September’s General Conference. Just as we were deeply moved by the first (provisional) Korean American Annual Conference in Dallas last year, this official gathering was also filled with deep gratitude and inspiration.
Most memorable of all was the gracious hospitality of Korean Methodist Church of Detroit. Normally, those arriving a day early for the conference make their own way from the airport to the hotel by Uber. However, this time, members of the host church personally picked up conference officers and lay delegates arriving as late as 1 a.m., and even thoughtfully prepared kimbap for them. Throughout the conference, every meal was prepared with such care and excellence that it felt as though we were dining at a Michelin 3-star restaurant. Surrounded by such love and service, we were deeply filled with the grace of God, and we give thanks and praise to the Lord once again.
On the first day of the conference, there was an installation service for Rev. Kevin Ryoo as Conference Superintendent. As many of you know, Rev. Ryoo has served the Korean churches and the Korean American Conference faithfully over many years—first as General Secretary during the Korean National Association days of the UMC, and later as Chief Operating Officer when our conference was still provisional. With the Korean American Annual Conference now formally launched, Rev. Ryoo was installed into the newly established role of Conference Superintendent. We celebrated this with joy, and I ask for your continued prayers that Rev. Ryoo may faithfully fulfill this calling as the first Conference Superintendent.
On the second day, delegates were elected to represent our conference at the second General Conference of the Global Methodist Church, which will be held in South Africa in September 2026. Though I am lacking in many ways, I was once again selected as one of four delegates. I sincerely ask for your prayers that I may faithfully take part in the process of shaping the Global Methodist Church into a denomination that honors God’s will.
In addition, the conference included the founding worship service of the Women’s Missionary Union, an ordination service for four pastors, a memorial service honoring pastors who were called home to the Lord over the past year, and a retirement service celebrating pastors who have faithfully completed their ministry. All of this took place within a blessed and meaningful three-night, four-day schedule.
While Pastor Daniel and I were away, the church remained strong and well cared for. I’m thankful to those who led early morning prayer and Wednesday worship in our absence. I also heard that the youth group had a successful ATV outing, thanks to the help of many parents. From the annual conference to our local church, it is good to be assured by the presence of those who serve the Lord sincerely and with passion. Thank you!
