When the Apostle Paul spoke to the early church, he shared a design about

how people should work together. He referred to the early church as

“the body.” This statement of Paul is a referral to the human body.

This example is used to point out the significance of every member of the

team. In writing his letter to the new and growing first-century church,

Paul emphasized the importance of every single person.

Can you imagine what it would be like to be a member of any sports team

and someone on that team decided that they would “do their own thing?”

That type of attitude would lead to the loss of the game and most likely

injury to others on the team. This is what is happening to many organizations

and congregations across the world.

Some congregations have concluded that they do not need the support

of the church around the corner, the one across town,

the one at the lower end of the county, or the one that approaches ministry differently.

Many congregations have isolated themselves and do not feel the need to

unite with others. If a congregation is to be successful there must be an

acceptance by individual members that they need one another.

When an individual “associates” with another person their resources, talents,

and skills geometrically multiplies. Although people differ in many ways and

their approaches to a task may be individually unique, the power of a unified team

cannot be underestimated.

When the Apostle Paul was writing his letter to the Roman church,

he was placing a great deal of emphasis upon teamwork.

He did not use the word team, teams, or teamwork but the comments he made

about the body of Christ strongly point to this type of development.
